This has been a long and grueling summer in regards to my husband’s work. His company underwent a corporate merger and with it, he has made a significant job change. While at times it’s been new and exciting, it’s also taken a toll on our family life. There have been countless evenings where we’ve missed the opportunity to share a family dinner, and several occasions where he’s even missed being here to tuck the kiddos in bed at night. I’m not going to pretend that it hasn’t been hard on me. Long days for him at the office always mean long days for me being the sole caretaker of our little ones. But I know where his heart is, and where he’d rather be. So along the journey, I’ve tried to find ways to encourage him and strengthen the bond of our family, even when spending a large quantity of time together wasn’t an option! Recently, the kids make Daddy lunchbox notes…but not just any notes…words of God’s wonderous grace and encouragement!
I simply printed out a few Bible Verses, and cut them into little squares for the kids to illustrate.
Then, each morning we include one with Daddy’s lunch. I make a mental note of that day’s verse, and then during lunchtime, the kids and I read it, discuss it, and then use the scripture to pray for Daddy. It’s been amazing. Not only are we learning new verses, but we also feel a special connection with Daddy, knowing that he is at work reading the same verse! And Daddy has even taken the opportunity to talk with the kids about the verse when he gets home. They tell him their thoughts about it, and then he gets to tell them what the verse meant to him!
We started with about 20 verses so that we have a month supply of them. If you’d like to do something similar, you can download our file by clicking on the image below! And then leave us a comment…we’d love to hear how you are using them with your family!
