Our Annual Family Egg Hunt & Picnic

On Saturday, we had our annual family egg hunt and picnic, just the 5 of us. I was surprised how much my girls remembered from last year, asking if we could do the same. They’d remembered that they’d each had specific color eggs to find: orange, blue, or purple, and made their color request for this year.

They’d remember the footprint trail that led to a little surprise.

And they’d remember that the golden eggs were the hardest to find!

But you know what? They didn’t remember the bunny shaped sandwiches and treats I’d made for our picnic last year, so I decided to make it easy on myself and not go to so much trouble this year! Instead I made this yummy pizza and filled their baskets with additional treats, and they probably loved it even more. The little cans of soda stole the show since it’s such a rare treat around here!

And then, I spent the time I’d saved making the kids each a picnic caddy from the tutorial found over at Snowy Bliss. I was pretty excited about how the boy version turned out. After all, I’m still learning how to be creative without putting ruffles and bows on everything ; )

All in all, it was a day full of wonderful memories. Like my little guy proudly wearing daddy’s hat, so that most of his pictures turned out much like this…

And creating brightly colored eggs together…

And then watching the girls hide them from one another, and experiencing yet another year when my little one again chose to hide them all in one spot…

And especially time spent playing with abandon…laughing and spinning and dancing…through bubbles from the bubble machine that was part of their hidden surprise. I’d picked it up on clearance at the end of last summer. And it was truly worth every single penny spent and more!

Beautiful memories. Something tells me I’m about to experience the best summer of my life.
